I've found that using the following five FREE items will solve 90% of virus & spyware problems:

AVG anti-virus
AVG anti-spyware
AVG anti-rootkit
http://free.grisoft.com/

Spybot Search & Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

Adaware by Lavasoft
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

One or all of these may need to be ran in safe mode in order for the items to be removed. Use F8 at bootup to initiate the safe-mode menu.

Other items worth noting are:

Hijack This. For advanced users only.
Windows Defender. May get certain items the other one's won't. May also delete some working remote-access software if you don't pay attention.Smile
